Lisa's passion to create a network of support, resources, and connection for families in Superior who have a child(ren) with diverse needs stems from her personal and professional connections.
Lisa grew up in Superior and experienced seizures that went undetected from Kindergarten through 11th grade and understands what it feels like to have needs that go unnoticed. While attending her senior year at Superior High School in 1998, Lisa advocated for students with special needs that she volunteered with during their art class.
Lisa obtained her B.S. in Elementary Education with minors in Early Childhood and Special Education, and she obtained her MSE Reading Education from UW- Superior. In 2002, Lisa had successful brain surgery that eliminated her seizures. From 2003-2013, Lisa taught in various districts and grade levels including kindergarten, preschool, third grade, and Title One-remedial reading and math. Since 2014, Lisa has worked for the Epilepsy Foundation of Minnesota as the Regional Outreach Manager - Northeast & Central MN, and she also taught at the college level in 2015 during her 2nd year at EFMN. Lisa's work at the EFMN includes programs and services that educate, empower, and connect people impacted by epilepsy.
Lisa and her husband have children with diverse needs, and she recognizes that without having a background in education and advocacy that she might not be as aware of how to advocate for her own children's needs. She is deeply passionate about all families in the district having access to resources to best support their child, and she looks forward to the opportunity to connect with families in Superior.
